Preventative Maintenance
Non-destructive Testing
Most insurance companies will require that Eddy Currenttesting be done on a regular basis.
The tubes in your chiller and heat exchanger are key components.
Scheduling an Eddy Current test can identify issues or monitor ongoing damages, such as: erosion, pitting and corrosion, before they become a problem.
Catastrophic tube failures can result in large repair costs for you and your insurance provider.
If you have coverage or carry an Equipment Breakdown Insurance policy, it is commonly referred to as Boiler and Machinery Insurance.
WHEN SHOULD EDDY CURRENT BE PERFORMED?
The best time to do Eddy Currenttesting is during your annual PM and inspections.
Eddy Current testing should be scheduled every 3 years.
This ensures we can identify any changes, or potential problems, that exist in your tubes.
If damage is detected then testing should be done every 1 to 2 years, depending on the type and severity of the damage.
Damaged tubes can be plugged or replaced to minimize downtime and to prevent potential future problems.
An Eddy Current test is recommended for new equipment being installed. This establishes a baseline for future test results to be compared against, for the life of the chiller or heat exchanger.
